This epic film is part biographic, part war story, and part historical drama and adventure. It follows the life of Kong Qui, the man to become known as Confucius. The film focuses on his life in his fifties when he becomes Minister for the Kingdom of Lu. It was a time of warring states and his wisdom helped the kingdom overcome many threats, often thanks to his astute intelligence and insight with a penchant towards compassion and benevolence. Due to this, many possible wars were avoided without any bloodshed. However, as a particular threat grows, certain nobles of the kingdom seek to oust the philosopher and scholar. They succeed. His resignation leads to a new chapter in his life as a wandering philosopher. He has many devoted disciples, but faces much hardship over the many years of his wandering. The film comes full circle when war gravely threatens Lu and Confucius has a choice to make.
