This book contains a collection of nice, short stories that all take place during the Edo period. As the title suggests, all stories involve ghosts and spirits in one way or another. The way these spirits behave is different from the usual Japanese ghost stories, though. In this case, the spirits aren’t always evil. In fact, in a number of the stories, the spirits actually help or warn the people who can see them. For example, in one of the stories a spirit reflects the intentions of the person looking at it, what the characters use when doing business. So for good people the spirit shows himself as a child, but to people who intend to harm someone or cheat them, he apparently looks very frightening.
