The Queen’s Blade tournament may be over, but the stories of the contestants have barely begun. Unaware that fate is already conspiring to pit many of them against each other in the arena of war, the sword maidens scatter across the lands in search of fame, fortune, and adventure.
For some that comes sooner than expected, as Leina finds herself drawn to aid her sister, Elina, who’s been captured by Echidna. Tortured by the Swamp Witch, Melona focuses her anger on the absent Airi and plots an insidious revenge. But when confronted with their common enemies, how long can it be until they both seek to reunite with Menace?
And if that’s not enough trouble to be forming on the horizon, Nanael manages to get herself banished from Heaven and her goal of forming a harem of servants for herself proves to be anything but angelic. Finally, to provide the beasts to go along with the beauties, both Alleyene and Nowa and Tomoe and Aldra each find their separate journeys marred by encounters with different forms of tentacled monsters!
We have six backstories with gorgeous babes that battle and go after each other in one form or another – its kiss or kill baby! But what happens in these episodes? Well, not to be a tease, since I won’t give you the full low-down, here’s a bit of the skinny.
First up we have Elina defeated and roped up by Echidna. Ohh, the naughty Echidna! It ends up being a complicated tale about two sisters, and one of them getting a bit obsessed with the other, but overall it was fun. It was kind of babalicious lite though, I was always grateful for when Echidna would show up and let the show get feisty again.
Next we have Alleyne, elven warriors, and the possible return of the dreaded swamp witch. Nyx creates havoc and we get some nice battle melee with an eyeful of fan service! Just the way ecchi fans like it! The fun with the swamp witch continues in the third episode at the church and Airi and Nanael adds angelic chaos to the mix while a certain buxom nun that defies physics with her chest can still give a holy smack down when needed.
Probably the tastiest episode is the fourth that has Airi and Menace reuniting and combating a Cleopatra wannabe. It is hilarious and full of fan service glory! Go, warrior babes, go! Right on top of that one is the equally funny silliness with Nanael who, when bored, gets up to no good and may literally have Hell to pay. Ahh, a girl and her dreams of having a harem!
The final episode is serious. Warriors pester the gorgeous ninja assassin Tomoe. Danm, she is one of the best looking anime characters on screen. She’s a sweet load of eye candy to finish the OVA’s off. Overall, you do not get a lot of real story fodder here. Queen’s Blade isn’t much about story and more about looks. Maybe that’s why episode 1 sort of fell flat for me. All that background to the two sisters as kids did not seem to fit with the Queen’s Blade usual flow and delivery. The rest of it goes boldly forward in typical Queen’s Blade naughtiness, but a lot lighter than the overall series, the OVA deals out more comedy.
And yes, there be tentacles therein, yarr!
We only get clean opening and ending songs plus other Sentai trailers…bummer.
The OVA series isn’t as naughty or as action packed as the previous series of Queen’s Blade, but it has backstory and scantily clad shenanigans.
