Includes episodes 93 to 122 (that’s 31 eps!) on five discs!
The Tournament saga comes to a climatic conclusion and the entire King Piccolo Saga are found in this one box set!
The season picks up with the battle during the semi-finals of the World Martial Arts Tournament. Jackie Chun and Tien are at it tooth and nail. But Tien proves he’s gone real bad when he endangers not only the life of his opponent, but everyone there at the tournament. There’s a lot more going on here than meets the eye. Following that is a furious fight between Goku and Krillin. Krillin throws in some cheap shots but he sure doesn’t give up. He even tries to use Goku’s tail weakness against him, but Goku has been doing some special training and this time around Krillin will be the one who gets a surprise!
The semi-finals lead to the match everyone knew was coming – Goku vs. Tien! Some seriously dirty pool is going on and Goku is taking the beating of his life – and maybe his death! Strange events occur and Tien proves he has more morals than we thought…maybe. A lethal attempt outside the ring on Goku’s life has Tien wanting a fair match unhindered by outsiders. Tien goes through a startling transformation and it looks like little Goku won’t stand a chance. These two take the battle to the brink and beyond, proving without a doubt that Goku has the heart of a lion and courage to spare!
The tournament arc doesn’t end on a high note. Just when you think everything is fine, Goku finds his buddy Krillin dead and the Dragon Ball stolen! Evil King Piccolo has returned to decimate mankind and take out the martial artists of Earth one by one! He creates ugly fiends to do his dirty work and they are on a rampage, the worse one being Tambourine. Many fall beneath his might and Goku may soon be among them!
Enemies become allies with King Piccolo’s monsters on the loose. Roshi looks for the Dragon Balls with the help of Tien and Chiaotzu. Meanwhile on his quest for revenge, Goku meets a new comrade in battle, the sword wielding Yajirobe. The two travel together and Goku at last gets his chance to battle Tambourine who killed Krillin. After that he faces off against King Piccolo but with devastating results! Evil now rules the world and Goku has to find the Ultra Divine Water if humanity is to have any hope. He again must climb Korin Tower, then he deals with an icy labyrinth, and after that the final match between him and King Piccolo!
It’s more heartfelt non-stop action in this fourth season. The King Piccolo saga is great, though the fights between Tambourine and the first battle against King Piccolo are over far, far too quickly. Usually fights in this anime last at least three episodes but these are one-episode fights. Considering the big grudge matches that they represent, they deserved more play out and air time. Also Tien’s redemption makes for an interesting side story that becomes crucial in the final episodes of the King Piccolo saga.
All this plus the box sets have the same remastered treatment as the uncut DBZ set releases. The video has been transferred from the Japanese originals for crisper and cleaner images than ever before. And the sound gets the digital treatment and is offered with the English dialogue and American music soundtrack now in Dolby Digital, English dialogue with original Japanese music, and the original Japanese dialogue with original Japanese score.
Extra goodies include FUNimation trailers, textless songs, and a 24 page booklet that has profiles of the heroes and villains, background info, and summaries of all the episodes in season 4. Plus there’s the Marathon Feature option to watch it all with just the opening at the very beginning and the credits at the very end with all the episodes on the disc in between with no opening and closing to worry about in between the middle episodes.
The tournament ends, a new winner is named and death follows! Goku is out for revenge when the fight gets personal in the fourth season of Dragon Ball! Dragon Ball – the biggest battles, the biggest heart!
