The Pokemon franchise has many incarnations, with many different characters taking the lead role for different stories. This particular book focuses on the adventures of “Yellow,” a boy that befriends Pikachu to stop Lance from creating an ultimate power capable of destroying all mankind. The book begins with Pikachu showing up badly hurt at Professor Oak’s lab. Yellow finds him there and without a complete explanation to Oak, leaves with Pikachu to hunt down Lance. Yellow and his team of Pokemon must battle the Elite Four to save the day. Only with his power to read Pokemon’s minds and help them to heal at incredible speed can he hope to achieve his mission. Yellow also meets up with many different Pokemon, people, and other trainers on his quest. There are a few side stories about just the Pokemon and their interactions with each other, each being comical and fun to follow along with. In the end the day is won for the better good, but the final battles to determine this end are outstanding and full of action.

The art style for this manga is fairly cutesy and fun, but still of a very high quality. The artist has a real talent for showcasing action and movement, making this Pokemon adventure as dynamic as it could possibly hope to be. The characters and their surroundings are detailed and fun – the art really shines. There is always so much to look at on each page because of all the time the artist has put into the little details. Bookshelves are full of books, people’s houses are full of their personal things, and the backgrounds are always filled with enough detail to make them more than believable and entertaining to scan through. All of the text is of a proper size and is easy to read. Sound effects are well integrated and add to the action.

Any fan of Pokemon will enjoy the adventures of Yellow and his crew, especially since it is so different from the usual story being focused on Ash. Yellow has a fairly different attitude, fighting style, and selection of special abilities – making this a new and enjoyable experience for readers of the series.

IN SUMMARY:
If you’re a Pokemon fan and you’re looking for a side story that promises some different experiences, Pokemon Adventures Yellow will be a surefire hit!
