The final game to decide who will be chosen for the special select team is well underway! Sho is putting all he has into the game as are his friends but will it be enough? And if all his hard work pays off and he is chosen, what will that mean for the team he’ll have to leave behind? Josui was a team he built from the ground up and led to victory. If he has to leave it, it could break his spirit. Little does he know a whole new challenge awaits him, one that will lead him back to the pain that first led him to Josui to begin with!
This is a fantastic sports manga. Whether you love soccer or simply enjoy a good rise to the top story of one boy against the odds, this is an exciting page turner. What is particularly interesting in this volume is the character development of the main character Sho. To see him strive against so much to obtain what he worked for is uplifting. However, that goal becomes a painful one when it means Sho will have to leave something he holds dear behind and he is forced to face a painful part of his past. The story’s way of showing the character’s growth while bringing the story and the character full circle was very well done. It made for a great read.
The down to earth soccer games filled with adrenalin were well thought out and very well drawn making it a joy to look at. The manga is steeped in realistic moves and rules of the sport, which should please fans of the game to no end. Whistle is an engaging sports manga, one of the best of the genre.
Extras include notes on the author’s trip to Australia, ‘Meet the Fuwas’, and Whistle! Theatre four panel comic strips.
Whistle! is a realistic soccer manga that will delight fans of the sport as well as engage readers who enjoy uplifting sports dramas.
