Here’s your exclusive first look at art from Nina Matsumoto’s new manga, YOKAIDEN, taken from a sample book on display during Comic-Con. Meet Hamachi and the yokai of YOKAIDEN. Cool, huh? This is the awesome deviantART image that helped launch Nina Matsumoto (aka SpaceCoyote) into e-superstardom. It’s more than just an excellent homage to one of the most-loved cartoons of all time. This image led to an offer from Bongo Comics (the home of The Simpsons!) and another offer to do character designs for Futurama figures! We at Del Rey Manga are ecstatic to welcome Nina into the Del Rey Manga family–her first OEL manga, YOKAIDEN, will be published by Del Rey in Summer 2008! You can find her deviantART page here: http://www.deviantart.com And for those of you into the webcomics scene, Nina is also the talented creator of the webcomic Saturnalia. SAN DIEGO, CA – July 28, 2007 – Del Rey, an imprint of Ballantine Books at the Random House Publishing Group, today announced an exciting new manga lineup for Spring 2008, with acquisitions of bestselling manga and manga novels from Japanese publishing powerhouse Kodansha, a manga video game tie-in with video game leader Capcom, and brand new original English-language manga. Del Rey Manga associate publisher Dallas Middaugh says, “As we move into our fourth year of publishing manga, we’re excited to announce titles of the caliber of Fairy Tail and Hell Girl. I’m as excited to read these books as anyone, and they look amazing.” (Read Full Blog Entry …) Some lucky comics fans and professionals were able to stop by the Del Rey Manga booth during Preview Night last night. Of course, our booth is flooded with manga. And no manga booth is complete without…toys! We have two large display cases filled with the latest stuff, straight from Japan! From super-cute plush Mokonas to detailed Air Gear figures, we have the stuff you won’t find in American stores. Plus, Del Rey Manga is giving away tons of goodies, including manga samplers, a massive number of pins, School Rumble door hangers, huge posters featuring our favorite mace-wielding Hime from Princess Resurrection, and a cool-looking Sosei from Dragon Eye. And because we know that some of you weren’t able to make it out to San Diego, we’re going to bring those goodies to you! Watch this space for updates on how to win some of our Comic-Con goods! |
